It ran down the cover and into a drain pan. I used a medium extension, ratchet and socket to loosen the bleeder screw and bled the fluid out. I removed the 2 bolts on the tranny cover, rotated the cover as far as I could. When I first bled my Freewheeler I cheated. If you take your time it is very do able. Yes the bolts at the rear muffler hangars are tough, you will need a couple of different angled 1/2 wrenches. My TriGlide was a big investment and I plan on keeping it for a while. I know it's a bit of a pain, but I just want to make sure I check all the items off the service list. Good news is that the 4 nuts at the flanges look easily accessible. That bracket (#14) at the exhaust tip looks very tricky. I plan to remove the exhaust heat shields and maybe replace the hose clamps that hold the shields in place while I'm at it. I have the manual and also studied that diagram earlier today. With the transmission on the bench, the motor’s rocker boxes are covered with masking tape as well as the frame down tubes we are ready to move forward and pull this motor.Thanks, Jack. Now to finish the Harley Davidson transmission removal, you can slowly lift up on the transmission case while tipping slightly downward in the front rotating the case up and out of the frame. Again, label or lay these parts out in a manner that will aid you during reassembly. The shouldered side of the spacer must be against the transmission case during reassembly. Note the position of the two pivot shaft spacers. Lastly, loosen and remove the swing arm axis/pivot shaft. These links are side specific, so be sure to label, or lay them out accordingly. Unbolt the left and right side transmission links located on the lower front sides of the transmission. Up to now, the transmission has been supporting the back of the motor. Use a flat jack with a block of wood to help support the motor. Now we are ready to begin removing the transmission case. If you do not have a plastic/rubber plug, you can use a clean shop towel or masking tape. Don’t forget to block the hole in the transmission case. It is a good idea to wrap this sensor with a clean shop towel before setting aside. Remove the vehicle speed sensor from the transmission case. Next, disconnect the neutral switch and rear brake switch wires. They will be removed with the entire wiring harness later. This wire triggers your starter from the start button via the starter relay. One is beneath the battery positive cable and powers the main breaker. Starter Removalįirst, we need to get the starter out of the way before Harley Davidson transmission removal can be done. Once the Harley Davidson transmission and engine are removed, they will be down to only a rolling chassis.
